Photo Friday

Happy Friday! I’m a bit later than usual posting today, but that may end up being the new norm. It turns out it’s a lot harder to find blogging time with a newborn in the house. πŸ˜‰ Normally I’d post during Lewis’ nap time, but today it was much more important to have a lovely two hour nap of my own.

Things are still going along pretty much as they have been. Anya is cute and sweet and sleepy, though we do seem to be seeing her eyes open a bit more each day. So far she seems much more easy-going than Lewis was as a baby, which I am definitely enjoying! She is quite happy to be laid down on a blanket on the floor for 5 or 10 minutes while I take care of the laundry or help Lewis with something. She also seems to enjoy tummy time, which was something Lewis always hated.

Lewis is still adoring her. He seems to think of her as something akin to a kitten – mostly there to be cute and to get petted. Sometimes we have to remind him that she is a person and might night like her face and cheeks to be touched constantly! He’s very gentle though and it is sweet to see how much he already loves her. He is also of course still his usual wild, silly, imaginative self. He has been having fun getting out of the house in the mornings with Daddy, going to cool places like the park, the library, the grocery store, and Daddy’s work.

She's quite happy to nap in her crib by day, but at night she'd much rather be snuggled up with Mommy.

One Week!

Baby Anya is a week old as of yesterday, which means it is time for some photo cuteness and a quick update. We are all soaking in her cuteness and sleepy cuddles. Lewis is doing great with her. He loves petting her soft hair and cheeks, and is oh so gentle with her. He has, as expected, gotten a bit jealous at times when Mommy was busy with Anya and couldn’t immediately come help him, but overall he is handling the change very well. We’re lucky that Chris gets to stay home for a couple of weeks while we all work on settling in and adjusting to new routines.

Staring off intently at something interesting.

Anya started out very very sleepy, waking just long enough to nurse and get her diaper changed between each stretch of sleep. She is starting now to have a bit more awake time between eating and sleeping, and I was pleasantly surprised that she stayed awake and alert for a full hour this morning before drifting back off to dream land. In typical newborn fashion she is happy to sleep in her bassinet during the day but wants nothing to do with it at night, when we’d really like her to be there. We are co-sleeping for now while she adjusts, but also working towards getting her used to her own sleep space since co-sleeping is really not our preferred method.

"Enough pictures mom!" She amazes me with her ability to roll from her back over onto either side. Lewis had no interest in rolling of any sort until he was almost a year old.

After taking some solo pictures of Anya we asked Lewis to sit and hold her for a few more pictures. He wasn’t very interested at first.

This picture cracks me up. When we first sat them down he just stared down at the floor and wouldn’t look at the camera or smile.

After a minute he decided to warm up to the camera and gave us plenty of smiles and silly faces.

Photo Friday – Special Edition!

Happy Friday everyone! This week you get a special batch of photos showing off our beautiful new baby girl! Baby Anya joined our family at 9:00pm on Tuesday. She takes after her brother weighing a hefty 9 lb 2 oz, and was 20 inches long. She is, of course, absolutely perfect. πŸ™‚

We were lucky that my mom was able to come out and stay with Lewis while Chris and I were at the hospital. Lewis loved having Grandma here and was sad when she had to go back home yesterday, but he’s looking forward to another visit sometime soon from her and Grandpa.

You get lots of photos today because I couldn’t choose which were best.

Photo Friday

It looks like I’ve been hit full on with pregnancy brain/mom brain today since I completely forgot it was Friday and I needed to do a photo post. Luckily we have a system in place for Chris to text me a reminder, which usually happens just as I’m finishing up the post for the week. Lewis also seems to be cooperating by having a nice long nap so I (hopefully) have time to finish this before he wakes. It’s not surprising since we had a busy morning and he also took a while to fall asleep today. I could hear him beingΒ very busy in his bed pretending to be a fork lift, and an excavator, and a dump truck, and I’m sure all sorts of other things too. He is on a construction kick right now because they have been paving in front of our apartments this week and we also took the book Diggers Go out from the library today. (All the books in this series are a lot of fun for toddlers with great pictures and full of fun sound effects. There is a trains one, diggers, planes, and trucks. Lewis enjoys them all.)

We went to the library this morning despite the fact that all I’ve wanted to do all week is sit on the couch. Baby is due Monday, and as I mentioned last week (I think) I am definitely feeling very pregnant now! I get tired if I’m on my feet for much longer than ten minutes, though it actually seems worse when I am just standing in one place (dish washing, prepping dinner, playing outside with Lewis, etc.) than when I’m actually walking and moving. So, I decided we would go to the library since we had a book due next Tues. and also it just seemed like a good idea to get both Lewis and myself out of the house. We had fun and came home with a pile of new books as usual. (Most of which we will read once or twice and then Lewis will declare he doesn’t like them anymore.) After the library we went to Starbucks for a treat despite the fact that it was almost lunch time. Lewis picked his favorite, a cake pop, and I got my decaf coffee frappuccino and we were both happy to sit and relax outside for a little while. Then we came home and had our real lunch which consisted of leftovers for me and a whole heap of peanut butter licked off apple slices for Lewis. I think he may have eaten a few bites of apple too, but mostly he would just live on peanut butter if he could.

Anyway, I know you are all here for the pictures and not my babbling, so here is the cuteness for the week:

Happy Friday once again everyone! We have been enjoying some lovely family time recently. We had a very nice trip to VT where we got to see all of my family, and Lewis adored having so many people to play with and keep him entertained, plus the benefit of a nice yard to play in. We got back here Tuesday and Chris had work the next two days but he got a surprise day off today, which means an extra day I can put him to work helping get this apartment back into some semblance of cleanliness. πŸ˜‰ It also means extra fun times spent playing together as a family. This morning we went out and puddle-splashed for a while, and Lewis also had an excellent time chasing Daddy around the house pretending they both were monsters. As might be expected most of these photos are from our trip to VT, with a few from the past couple days in our own home.

Happy spring and Happy Easter everyone! We have had a lovely week of beautiful weather and Easter-themed activities. But, you won’t see any Easter photos here because I took too many photos this week and they will need a post of their own. Not sure when they will be posted since Lewis could wake from his nap any time now, but I will attempt to get them up either this afternoon or this evening. We leave tomorrow for a lovely long-weekend in VT where we will get to see my entire (giant) family. Some of Lewis’ aunties and uncles we haven’t seen since my sister’s wedding in October, so it will be nice to see everyone again! And Lewis, of course, is looking forwards to a visit from the Easter Bunny. πŸ™‚

I finally got around to ordering a roll of butcher paper for art projects, so I had Lewis put it to the test with some markers. We still need to test how well it holds up to paint, but we have been too busy playing outside all week!

Happy Friday everyone! It is Friday, right? Things have been feeling just a bit mixed up here due to some deadlines and crazy work schedule for Chris. He’s been working late nearly every evening and also working some Saturdays, so that leaves a lot of time for me and Lewis to keep busy on our own. Thankfully we have been lucky to have beautiful warm weather all week and have spent as much time as possible outside. Even a rainy day yesterday didn’t ruin it since all that meant was that Lewis had the chance to test out his new rain jacket! He is loving the puddles, the mud, and every other part of this emerging spring weather. We’ve gone for some nice walks and also enjoyed exploring outdoors again and seeing how the world is changing around us. Hope you all have had some nice weather to enjoy too!

Let's start things off right with this artistic Lewis-eye perspective of some of the mess on our floor.
