Photo Friday

And I’m back with another Photo post on a lovely Friday afternoon! Hopefully I can actually get this up and posted since we’re almost at the end of Lewis’ nap time, and Anya doesn’t yet have any set napping time so could wake up at any inconvenient moment.

This post will finish catching us up to the present time with photos from our trip to the lake as well as a few since we’ve been home (which apparently I haven’t been taking very many of.)

Our time at the lake was of course lovely with lots of extended family around. The weather was mostly-good with a couple of rainy days and a few random showers on some of the nicer days, but we managed to keep busy and have fun the whole time. Lewis didn’t seem to remember anything from being up there a year ago, so it was all new and exciting exploration for him. We only swam a few times since the lake was a bit chilly and Lewis didn’t like the days with big waves, but he did have a lot of fun playing with the rocks on shore and swimming when the water was calm.

We are now well settled back into our home routines and have been having daily walks and plenty of art projects and sensory play as usual.

I still haven’t quite figured out how to keep the cleaning/cooking/dishes/laundry/etc. under control while caring for two little ones so I have instituted a new rule of “everyone cleans for 10 minutes after dinner” which has helped marginally. I turn on the timer and try to tell Lewis that it is a game and we have to race and clean as fast as we can before it beeps, but he is having none of that and just tells me he is a very slow cleaner and goes on to prove his point. My hope however is that if we keep it up consistently it will just become accepted fact that we do some cleaning after dinner and he will start to participate a bit more with it.

Anyway, here are some photos!

Hello! Anya is 3 weeks old this week, and it is amazing how quickly time is passing! (I know, talk to anyone with children and they’ll tell you how the early weeks/months/years just fly by and are gone before you know it, but this is definitely feeling much faster than it did with Lewis.) We’re still getting along pretty well with Daddy at work. Depending on how Anya times her naps in relation to her brother’s I don’t always get a nap of my own, but luckily she only wakes about twice each night so I’m not as terribly exhausted as I could be. The house isn’t clean, but it never was anyway. Toys are everywhere and dirty dishes are piled in the kitchen as usual. Give me another five years and maybe I’ll crack the code on keeping up with the housework.

We’ve gotten a little better about managing to get outside too. I’ve used a combination of the Moby wrap, ring sling (still getting used to this), and stroller, or leaving her asleep in her bouncy chair in the living room while Lewis and I play outside the front door. Easiest so far seems to be going for walks with her napping in the stroller and letting Lewis run and play alongside us as we go along. This also has the added benefit of getting me a little exercise, and also makes it easy to keep her shielded from the sun.

Happy Friday everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the start of summer! Last Saturday we all went to the Strawberry Festival. Anya obliged us by sleeping in the stroller up until it was almost time to head home. It was a fairly quick trip because Lewis decided he liked riding in the stroller and looking at everything as we walked past, but he wasn’t interested in getting out to actually take a closer look at anything or participate in any of the crafts. He totally vetoed even going close to the petting zoo/pony rides. The one thing he was excited to try though was braking a board in front of the Tae Kwon Do studio. He has been interested in Tae Kwon Do ever since seeing a demonstration in the Niskaday parade, so he thought it was really great that he got to break a board of his own this time.

Chris went back to work on Wednesday, so today is day 3 of me being home alone with the two little ones. So far it is going very well. Anya still sleeps a lot, though we are seeing her eyes open more and more every day. Her sleeping means that I’m still getting plenty of time to play one-on-one with Lewis and even wash a few dishes. The trickiest thing for me has been trying to find the right time to get Lewis outside for some play time. I need to work on getting Anya used to being in (and sleeping in) the sling or other carrier, so that I can carry her around that way while letting Lewis wander and play like he likes to do. The past few days we’ve been sticking to using the stroller outside but she’s really not sure how she feels about that yet either, so we’ve been keeping our trips outside pretty short.

And although she is overall a pretty good sleeper so far, she does seem to be timing some of her awake times rather inopportunely. Apparently when I am cooking lunch or sitting to eat with Lewis is the obvious time for her to also want her lunch, and time for me to cook dinner is of course the perfect time for her to wake up needing milk and snuggles. She has also decided that evenings are for frantic cluster feeding, which means I end up tied to the couch nursing her for a few hours when I’d really like to be able to grab a shower, relax a little bit, or just get to bed! She’s still very tiny though and I know her “schedule” will probably shift 100 times in the next month so I will continue to just follow her cues and daydream about the day when I’ll be able to eat, sleep, and bathe on my own preferred schedule once again. (Overall she is really a very calm and happy baby, and much “easier” than Lewis ever was as an infant.)

Happy springy Friday everyone! We’ve had a couple days of slightly cooler weather, but no rain yet except a bit in the nights so we’ve still been getting out to play very frequently! Lewis and our neighbor J have been having a lot of fun playing with chalk, squirty bottles of water, and squirt guns (squirting both the chalk and each other.) A few days ago Lewis and I also mixed up a batch of fizzy squirty sidewalk chalk paint. We took it outside to share with J and the two boys had an absolute blast. They first had a lot of fun squirting designs all over the sidewalk (and L all over himself. Thankfully after a quick scrub and a soak there were no stains in his shirt.) They were even more excited when I brought out the bottles of vinegar after the paint had all been squirted! This is definitely an activity we will be repeating in the future.

This weekend will also be a fun and busy one for us. Tomorrow is our little town celebration of Niskaday, which we have had a lot of fun with the past two years. We’ll go to the parade in the morning, and then head out soon after for the fair. Our main goals will be to get some tasty lunch and see the petting zoo. We’ll also explore whether Lewis is interested in trying any of the rides this year, and perhaps have fun watching the clown on stilts since that was one of Lewis’ favorite things last year. I’ll also try to get a peek around the craft booth, possibly while Chris and Lewis are off playing and exploring. Once we are done with Niskaday we are also looking forward to an overnight visit from a couple of friends. Lewis is very excited at the prospect of seeing Daddy and Aaron playing some video games (he’s hoping for Skylanders and Mario) and also is planning to show off some of his toys. 🙂

And here are your photos for the week!

Strawberries, bananas, Vanilla Wafers, and melted chocolate for dipping. This was originally planned as a Mother's Day treat but we were too busy eating other yummy things so Lewis and I enjoyed it together the next day.

Happy Friday again everyone! Our lovely spring weather has taken a bit of a turn this week with rain off and on for a few days and chilly temperatures yesterday and today. We’ve even had a few snow flurries! We’ve still managed to get outside a bit each day but it is less enticing with this weather. Lewis’ focus when playing outside has shifted from digging in the mud to looking under rocks and clumps of dirt/grass that the plows dug up in a hunt for worms. We also conducted a worm rescue mission one day when we went out to puddle splash and Lewis noticed all the worms in puddles and on the pavement. He was very focused on collecting any worm that was still wiggling and bringing it safely back to the grass/dirt. Today while we were out he was telling the robins not to eat any worms because the worms are his friends.

Since we’ve been a bit more cooped up inside this week we’ve been keeping busy with some art and sensory play. We’ve played with rice in the sensory bin, blew bubbles, painted, colored, and tried out a new playdoh recipe. It looks like the weather will be warming up a bit again this weekend, so we are looking forward to the chance to get back outside and burn off a little more of the endless toddler energy! (Bonus: I can send Lewis outside with daddy while I find somewhere comfortable to sit and put my feet up. I’m in week 33 of this pregnancy and starting to feel rather whale-like.)

Happy Friday once again everyone! We have been enjoying some lovely family time recently. We had a very nice trip to VT where we got to see all of my family, and Lewis adored having so many people to play with and keep him entertained, plus the benefit of a nice yard to play in. We got back here Tuesday and Chris had work the next two days but he got a surprise day off today, which means an extra day I can put him to work helping get this apartment back into some semblance of cleanliness. 😉 It also means extra fun times spent playing together as a family. This morning we went out and puddle-splashed for a while, and Lewis also had an excellent time chasing Daddy around the house pretending they both were monsters. As might be expected most of these photos are from our trip to VT, with a few from the past couple days in our own home.

Photo …. Sunday!

Well, I’ve missed posting on Friday again. I think that is something like three weeks in a row that I have missed, so I’d better play a little catch-up! Not sure what is up with me and Fridays, it always seems to be something different that makes me miss out on posting. This week I sat down to do it a bit late and Lewis woke up a bit early and so it didn’t end up happening. Another week I just completely forgot that it was Friday and the thought of a Photo Friday post didn’t cross my mind until a few days later. And of course there are the days where I am just worn out and would rather have a nap! I am starting to feel a bit more energy though and have been napping less often and managing to feel a bit more productive. (Although I’m sure soon enough my belly will start ballooning and I will once again be feeling exhausted….)

We’ve been having lots of weather that is cold, snowy, and windy. The snow this year is deeper than I’ve ever seen it in this area, and it seems to keep coming down. We make it outside to play a few days each week, but most of our time has been spent cooped up indoors. We’ve been keeping busy with lots of art projects, sensory play, hide-and-seek, and indoor chasing games. We’ve also enjoyed some Valentine activities this past week, including a valentine sensory bin, valentine bath with red bath water, and baking some heart shaped (and airplane shaped and cat shaped) sugar cookies, then decorating them with pink icing and red sugar. So…. here are the photos I know you all have been waiting for!
