Photo Friday

And I’m back with another Photo post on a lovely Friday afternoon! Hopefully I can actually get this up and posted since we’re almost at the end of Lewis’ nap time, and Anya doesn’t yet have any set napping time so could wake up at any inconvenient moment.

This post will finish catching us up to the present time with photos from our trip to the lake as well as a few since we’ve been home (which apparently I haven’t been taking very many of.)

Our time at the lake was of course lovely with lots of extended family around. The weather was mostly-good with a couple of rainy days and a few random showers on some of the nicer days, but we managed to keep busy and have fun the whole time. Lewis didn’t seem to remember anything from being up there a year ago, so it was all new and exciting exploration for him. We only swam a few times since the lake was a bit chilly and Lewis didn’t like the days with big waves, but he did have a lot of fun playing with the rocks on shore and swimming when the water was calm.

We are now well settled back into our home routines and have been having daily walks and plenty of art projects and sensory play as usual.

I still haven’t quite figured out how to keep the cleaning/cooking/dishes/laundry/etc. under control while caring for two little ones so I have instituted a new rule of “everyone cleans for 10 minutes after dinner” which has helped marginally. I turn on the timer and try to tell Lewis that it is a game and we have to race and clean as fast as we can before it beeps, but he is having none of that and just tells me he is a very slow cleaner and goes on to prove his point. My hope however is that if we keep it up consistently it will just become accepted fact that we do some cleaning after dinner and he will start to participate a bit more with it.

Anyway, here are some photos!

Photo Friday

Hello! I seem to be just squeezing this in while it’s barely still Friday, but I figured I’d better do some cuteness sharing while I had the chance since I missed last Friday. 🙂

It’s amazing how much and how little can happen in a week or two. Our days seem to go by in a blur of sleep-deprivedness, walks, messes, and most of all nursing the baby. Especially earlier this week when she was in the midst of a growth spurt and barely stopped nursing for a day or two. She even took a break from most of her day time naps to gain even more nursing time. Thank goodness she somehow managed to still sleep well for the nights during this. (As well as a baby can be expected to sleep, that is.) Lewis has been a champ and while he clearly would like more interaction from Mommy he is generally quite good at self-entertaining when needed and is still very much in love with his little sister.

Anya is a little darling and spends her days nursing, sleeping, gazing on the world with serious eyes, nursing some more, and gracing us with a few delightful smiles now and then.

Sweet sleeper in a rumpled bed. She often nurses and goes back to sleep for an extra hour or two after the rest of us are up for the day.

Happy Friday! Baby Anya is one month old as of yesterday, and of course I have no idea how the month has flown by so quickly. At her well baby visit she weighed in at 10 lb 11 oz, and was 23 inches long. This is fun because they looked up Lewis’ chart and he was also 10 lb 11 oz at one month, and was 23.5 inches long. He was an inch longer at birth though so he had a head start on his height.

Our poor little girl is all covered in a ridiculously terrible case of baby acne. When the first several dots showed up on her tummy and face last week I thought “oh, baby acne, no big deal” but as more and more dots showed up we started to wonder if maybe it was some other kind of horrible rash. Her tummy, chest, back, face, and even her scalp are completely covered, and it is starting now to spread onto her arms as well. The doctor has confirmed that it is baby acne and that we can’t do much besides gentle baths with plain water or a mild soap and just wait for it to clear up on it’s own in the next few weeks. She doesn’t really seem bothered by it, but I’m not sure if we’d know she was anyway since she can’t exactly tell us or attempt to scratch her own back or anything.

Lewis is enjoying our daily walks outside and the fact that he can climb off the stroller and explore while I push Anya back and forth nearby. He’s also enjoying turning the house upside down and dumping out every toy he owns while Mommy is trapped on the couch with a constantly nursing baby and can’t come clean up the resulting messes. He is also clearly loving the color red which he is wearing in nearly all these photos.

It looks like I’ve been hit full on with pregnancy brain/mom brain today since I completely forgot it was Friday and I needed to do a photo post. Luckily we have a system in place for Chris to text me a reminder, which usually happens just as I’m finishing up the post for the week. Lewis also seems to be cooperating by having a nice long nap so I (hopefully) have time to finish this before he wakes. It’s not surprising since we had a busy morning and he also took a while to fall asleep today. I could hear him being very busy in his bed pretending to be a fork lift, and an excavator, and a dump truck, and I’m sure all sorts of other things too. He is on a construction kick right now because they have been paving in front of our apartments this week and we also took the book Diggers Go out from the library today. (All the books in this series are a lot of fun for toddlers with great pictures and full of fun sound effects. There is a trains one, diggers, planes, and trucks. Lewis enjoys them all.)

We went to the library this morning despite the fact that all I’ve wanted to do all week is sit on the couch. Baby is due Monday, and as I mentioned last week (I think) I am definitely feeling very pregnant now! I get tired if I’m on my feet for much longer than ten minutes, though it actually seems worse when I am just standing in one place (dish washing, prepping dinner, playing outside with Lewis, etc.) than when I’m actually walking and moving. So, I decided we would go to the library since we had a book due next Tues. and also it just seemed like a good idea to get both Lewis and myself out of the house. We had fun and came home with a pile of new books as usual. (Most of which we will read once or twice and then Lewis will declare he doesn’t like them anymore.) After the library we went to Starbucks for a treat despite the fact that it was almost lunch time. Lewis picked his favorite, a cake pop, and I got my decaf coffee frappuccino and we were both happy to sit and relax outside for a little while. Then we came home and had our real lunch which consisted of leftovers for me and a whole heap of peanut butter licked off apple slices for Lewis. I think he may have eaten a few bites of apple too, but mostly he would just live on peanut butter if he could.

Anyway, I know you are all here for the pictures and not my babbling, so here is the cuteness for the week:

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for more cute Lewis photos! This week has been all about things that Lewis can keep busy with while I sit on my butt near by, which has looked like a lot of playing out in front of our apartment with me observing from my lawn chair. Last weekend also included a lot of outside time, but Chris was home so Lewis got a bit more interaction.

The pool opened last weekend and even though we knew the water would be frigid Chris and Lewis decided to give it a try (while I sat in a comfy chair watching the action.) Lewis was rather cautious at first, but eventually decided he loved the water. He also found it rather fascinating that there were bugs in the water. He wanted to rescue all the live ones, and wanted daddy to swish away the dead ones. I joined them to watch (and take pictures) the first day they went, but when they decided to go again the next day I didn’t tag along. It sounds like they had even more fun that day though since they found some pool noodles to play with and Lewis even attempted some solo swimming while hanging on a noodle! I’ll probably send the two of them out again this weekend if the weather is warm enough, although the idea of a freezing cold swim isn’t quite appealing to me at the moment.

Hello again everyone! Are we ready for a three day weekend? Chris’ work has calmed down a bit and he is back to his regular working hours, but it will still be nice to have him home for an extra day.

Last weekend was a busy one for us with Niskaday (photos presumably to be posted in a separate post if I ever get around to it) and then a visit from friends Sat-Sun. We went mini golfing together Sunday then out for a tasty lunch. Lewis was excited to go golfing but once we got there he discovered that the actual golfing part was rather boring and there were much more interesting things like a water fountain to watch, bugs to hunt for under rocks, a play area, and ice cream!

I am nearly 38 weeks pregnant and definitely feeling the effects. I get quite worn out if I am on my feet for any length of time, so we have been doing lots of at-home activities all week and not straying too far away. There is still plenty of fun to keep us busy though!

Shaving cream, apparently, is the most fun if you spread it all over your entire body. (I offered to him to take his shirt off but he didn't want it on his belly or skin, just his clothes.)

Happy Friday! Life is continuing on pretty much as usual here. Lewis and I are spending as much time as possible out in the warm and sunny weather. We are also missing Daddy as he continues to work long hours for the next few weeks. Lewis tries to make up for lost time by delaying his bedtime in every way possible and continually calling Daddy back in to the bedroom to help with completely imaginary and un-needed tasks.

Our main activities this week have included picking hundreds of dandelions, eating (homemade) popsicles, and using a squeezy bottle of water to squirt chalk drawings (and ants) on the sidewalk.

We went to the mall last weekend and of course Lewis had to try one of the little rides there. We don't go often and to him the mall was like a whole new experience. He was especially excited to ride the elevator and escalators! He also enjoyed that one of the shoe stores had balls he could play with, though he wasn't a fan of trying on new shoes.
